On Wednesday, 15 July 2026, at 9:00 a.m. local time, the CSG Group, through its U.S. subsidiary MSM North America, officially began construction of the Future Artillery Complex (FAC) at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant (IAAAP). The ceremony marked the launch of one of the U.S. Army’s most significant modernization projects in the field of large-caliber ammunition production and represents another important milestone in CSG’s long-term expansion in the United States. The facility is owned by the U.S. government and will be operated by MSM North America under the GOCO, or government-owned, contractor-operated, model.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by representatives of the U.S. Army, industry partners and the CSG Group, led by its CEO and Chairman of the Board, Michal Strnad.

USD 635 million contract and capacity of 36,000 shells per month

Construction follows the contract for the design, construction and commissioning of the Future Artillery Complex, which the U.S. Army awarded to MSM North America in 2025. The new plant will be owned by the U.S. government and operated by MSM North America as the private-sector partner under the GOCO (government-owned, contractor-operated) model.

Once completed, the facility will replace a production line that has served the U.S. Army for more than 50 years. With a capacity of up to 36,000 loaded 155 mm artillery shells per month, it will become the world’s most advanced facility of its kind and a key element in the modernization and expansion of the U.S. ammunition industrial base.

“Breaking ground on the Future Artillery Complex is much more than the start of construction of a new production facility. It demonstrates what can be achieved when the U.S. Army and industry work together with a shared commitment to strengthening allied defence capabilities. We are proud that MSM North America and CSG have become trusted partners in this strategically important program, contributing decades of ammunition manufacturing experience to help build capabilities that will serve the United States and its allies for many years to come,” said Michal Strnad, CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors of CSG.

MSM North America is part of MSM GROUP

MSM North America was established in 2025 as part of MSM GROUP, an industrial and technology group operating within CSG. MSM GROUP brings together companies with a long history in the defense industry and specializes in manufacturing and services for medium- and large-caliber ammunition.

The U.S. company was established to build a presence in the United States, provide key products and services to the U.S. Armed Forces and help strengthen the resilience of the U.S. ammunition industrial base. MSM North America is the prime contractor and systems integrator for the Future Artillery Complex. In cooperation with the U.S. Army and a broad network of U.S. industry partners, it is responsible for the design, construction and implementation of the entire project.

CSG continues to expand its industrial presence in the United States

The Future Artillery Complex is part of the CSG Group’s broader strategy to establish itself as a major industrial partner in the United States. CSG currently employs more than 4,000 people in the United States, primarily through The Kinetic Group, one of the leading U.S. manufacturers of small-caliber ammunition. The FAC project is expected to create approximately 70 highly skilled jobs directly at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant and contribute to the continued growth of MSM North America and its activities in the U.S. defense market.

In addition to MSM North America, which focuses on medium- and large-caliber ammunition production and is delivering the FAC project, CSG has also established CSG Land Systems North America. The company represents Excalibur Army, Tatra Defence and Tatra Trucks in the U.S. market in the areas of artillery systems, tactical vehicles and land platforms. These activities confirm the CSG Group’s long-term commitment to strengthening the U.S. defense industrial base, creating jobs in the United States and further expanding the group’s manufacturing footprint in North America.

Production capacity for future generations

Maj. Brian K. Schwartzkopf of the U.S. Army’s Joint Program Executive Office Armaments & Ammunition (JPEO A&A) emphasized that the Future Artillery Complex is intended to meet current operational needs while strengthening the U.S. ammunition industrial base for generations to come.

“This facility, combined with other modernization efforts across the United States, helps us achieve the Army’s goal of producing 100,000 155mm rounds per month. It’s a critical part of securing that capability for the future.”

He also emphasized that the investment was conceived with a multi-decade horizon. “We’re securing a sustainable, lethal capability for decades to come. My great-great-grandkids could be firing rounds produced from this facility.”

Maj. Schwartzkopf also praised the exceptional pace of the project’s delivery.

“The collaboration between the U.S. Army and MSM has allowed us to execute this project at a pace that’s rarely seen. We’re breaking ground in less than twelve months from contract award.”

Automation will improve production safety and efficiency

According to Jason W. Gaines, CEO of MSM North America, the project combines a long-term strategic vision with state-of-the-art manufacturing technologies. “In order for this capability to be sustainable for the next 50 years, this new, modern Future Artillery Complex had to come to fruition.”

He added that automation is being introduced where it delivers genuine value. “We’re not introducing automation for the sake of automation. We’re introducing it where it makes sense – improving safety, increasing efficiency, and delivering a consistent product.”

Jason Gaines also praised the close cooperation between the U.S. Army, industry and all project partners.

“This team of Army, industry, and partners has set a new standard for how modernization projects are executed – from design through construction and commissioning.”

European know-how strengthens the U.S. defense industrial base

The project draws on the CSG Group’s extensive experience in ammunition manufacturing. CSG is one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of medium- and large-caliber ammunition, with a high degree of vertical integration across the manufacturing chain. Experts from the CSG Group’s European ammunition plants are also involved in delivering the Future Artillery Complex, bringing decades of ammunition development and manufacturing experience to the project.

Construction is expected to be completed in approximately 40 months, while commissioning of the facility, including the First Article Acceptance Testing process, is scheduled within 48 months of the contract award. Production is expected to begin in 2029.

The Future Artillery Complex was designed as a long-term strategic manufacturing facility for the United States. Its high level of automation, modern safety standards and flexible production will provide the U.S. Army with resilient production capacity for 155 mm ammunition for decades to come and support the future needs of the United States and its allies.

The discussion took place against the backdrop of the ongoing war in Ukraine, escalating tensions in the Middle East, and increasing defence investments by NATO member states. Participants agreed that the security environment is undergoing a fundamental transformation and that strengthening Europe’s defence capabilities has become one of the key priorities.

Military Modernization and Emerging Security Challenges

One of the main topics discussed was the modernization of the Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic. Beyond the renewal of military equipment and weapons systems, increasing emphasis is being placed on advanced technologies, communication systems, and the ability to respond to new forms of threats.

“Security can no longer be taken for granted. It requires long-term investment, modern technologies, and a strong industrial base capable of supporting both national defence capabilities and those of our allies,” was a recurring message throughout the discussion.

The panel also addressed the economic significance of the defence industry. Despite a slowdown in the broader economy, the defence sector remains one of the industries continuing to grow and create new investment opportunities.

Jakub Krchňavý presented the latest developments within ZVS holding:

“In recent years, ZVS holding and MSM GROUP have made significant investments in modernizing production capacities. Our strategy also includes development projects in Dubnica nad Váhom, Snina, and Strážske, enabling us to increase production capacity, introduce new technologies, and strengthen the competitiveness of the Slovak defence industry in international markets. Our goal is to build a modern and sustainable manufacturing base capable of responding to growing customer demands and an evolving security environment.”

Investments, Production, and Supply Chains

The discussion also covered manufacturing capacities, current ammunition demand, and the operation of supply chains.

“In recent years, the defence industry has faced increased pressure regarding the availability of certain materials and components. At the same time, however, it has continued investing in production expansion and technological innovation,” he added.

Another important topic was the export activities of Slovak manufacturers, their position in global markets, and the cooperation between the public and private sectors in strengthening defence capabilities.

Cybersecurity was also highlighted as a critical issue. Today, it affects all organizations operating in the digital environment, while the defence industry remains one of the sectors with the highest requirements for the protection of data, technologies, and production processes.

Participation in the conference reaffirmed the importance of open dialogue on security, defence, and the role of industry in building a more resilient Europe. At a time of growing geopolitical challenges, cooperation among governments, industry, and technology partners is becoming one of the decisive factors shaping future security.

The components were ordered by two European customers from NATO member countries. The production of the electronic fuzes will also involve Fuchs Electronics Europe, a new business to be established between CSG and South Africa’s Reunert in Slovakia. These are long-term contracts, with deliveries set to begin this year.

The new contracts build on CSG’s long-term efforts to strengthen its manufacturing and technological capabilities in large-calibre ammunition. They also confirm growing demand from European customers for strategically important components and underline the importance of resilient supply chains within the European defence industry. “These contracts confirm that CSG is among the key European players in large-calibre ammunition and a manufacturer of critical components. Fuzes are strategically important and a technologically demanding component of artillery ammunition. Fuchs Electronics Europe will play an important role in fulfilling these contracts, combining Fuchs’ technological know-how with CSG’s industrial base in Slovakia. Through this business, we will strengthen the European manufacturing base and increase the availability of electronic fuzes for customers from NATO member countries as well as other European ammunition manufacturers,” said Jan Marinov, CEO of CSG Defence Systems division.

The fuze is a critical component of every artillery shell. It determines when and how detonation is initiated. In modern artillery ammunition, including 155 mm ammunition, fuzes play an essential role not only in the munition’s effect, but also in its accuracy, reliability and deployment across different operational scenarios.

Modern electronic fuzes enable multiple modes of operation, including impact detonation, delayed detonation, timed detonation and airburst at a precisely defined altitude above the target. Compared with mechanical fuzes, they offer greater accuracy, enhanced flexibility of use and improved compatibility with modern fire control systems. Their production requires specialised know-how, precision electronics, a qualified industrial base and strict quality control processes.

“Today, the European defence industry needs to increase capacity not only in ammunition production itself, but also in the production of its most important components. This is why CSG is investing in vertical integration, technological know-how and the localisation of production in Europe. Our goal is to strengthen the ability of European countries to replenish stocks of modern ammunition and to remain a reliable partner to the armed forces of NATO member states,” added Marinov

New manufacturing capability to secure European production of electronic fuzes

Fuchs Electronics Europe will be established between CSG and South Africa’s Reunert. Through this investment, CSG will become one of the few European manufacturers of electronic fuzes. The establishment of Fuchs Electronics Europe is subject to customary regulatory and closing conditions. Production will take place at MSM GROUP’s ZVS holding plant in Dubnica nad Váhom, Slovakia, where it will leverage CSG’s existing industrial infrastructure. The new business will operate as an independent manufacturer of electronic fuzes and will supply them not only to CSG, but also to other European producers of large-calibre ammunition.

The business’ technology partner is Fuchs Electronics, which is part Reunert. Fuchs Electronics is a globally respected manufacturer of electronic fuzes with more than 60 years of experience in this field. It brings core technology, development know-how and experience in the production of modern fuzes for international customers to the joint venture. CSG contributes its industrial base, manufacturing infrastructure, expertise in the European regulatory and licensing environment, and experience in the production and supply of large-calibre ammunition.

Industrial-technology group CSG and Reunert have entered into an agreement to establish a new business focused on the production of electronic fuzes for large-calibre ammunition in Slovakia to be named Fuchs Electronics Europe. The new business will be owned 51% by Reunert and 49% by CSG. Through its investment in Fuchs Electronics Europe, CSG will become one of the few manufacturers of electronic fuzes within the European Union.

The project represents a significant step in further vertically integrating large-calibre ammunition production across CSG’s manufacturing base. It will expand the CSG’s technological capabilities to include a critical component of modern artillery ammunition, enhance competitiveness, and reinforce its position as a comprehensive supplier within European markets. Localising production within the European Union will also contribute to strengthening supply chain security and advancing Europe’s strategic autonomy in artillery ammunition manufacturing.

“This investment significantly enhances CSG’s large-calibre ammunition portfolio. Electronic fuzes are technologically sophisticated and strategically important components. The combination of Fuchs’ world class technology with our manufacturing and distribution capability will increase CSG’s competitiveness and reinforce our role as a reliable partner to European customers,” said Jan Marinov, CEO of CSG Defence.

The fuze is a critical element of every artillery shell, determining both the timing and mode of detonation. In modern 155 mm ammunition, electronic fuzes are now standard, enabling multiple modes of operation – impact, delay, time, or airburst at a precisely defined altitude above the target. Compared to mechanical solutions, they offer greater accuracy, enhanced flexibility, and improved integration with modern fire control systems. Their production is technologically demanding, characterized by high added value and strategic importance for ammunition manufacturers.

The newly established business will operate as an independent manufacturer of electronic fuzes, supplying this key component not only to CSG but also to other European producers of large-calibre ammunition.

The business’ technology partner is South Africa-based Fuchs Electronics, which is part of the Reunert Group and a globally respected manufacturer of electronic fuzes with more than 60 years experience. The company brings core technology and extensive expertise in the development and production of modern fuzes to the business, supported by long-standing know-how. CSG contributes deep expertise in regulatory, licensing, and export environments and will provide manufacturing infrastructure, industrial facilities, and production of selected components.

“Combining our technological know-how with CSG’s industrial capability, creates a strong European manufacturing base for electronic artillery fuzes aligned with applicable NATO qualification requirements. The investment in Fuchs Electronics Europe will allow us to respond more effectively to the growing demand for modern artillery ammunition and contribute to the strengthening of Europe’s industrial defence capacity,” added Trevor Raman, CEO of Reunert’s Applied Electronics Segment.

Production will be located at the ZVS Dubnica nad Váhom site in Slovakia, fully leveraging off existing CSG infrastructure. The business is being established on a capital-efficient basis, supported by a binding launch order underpinning its revenue during the first three-year ramp-up period. It is envisaged that business will be self-sufficient within approximately three years from the start of operations and will achieve attractive margins, which are expected to be value accretive to both Reunert and CSG.

Assistance for healthcare, education, communities, and people facing difficult life situations has become a natural part of MSM GROUP’s operations and values.

Another proof of this philosophy came on Tuesday, May 19, when, during a single day, we supported two important organizations with a total amount of €85,200. Through our civic association MSM ĽUĎOM, we presented the Association for Assistance to the Disabled (APPA) with a symbolic cheque worth €55,200 and provided support of €30,000 to the rehabilitation center ADELI Medical Center in Piešťany.

The APPkA Charity Application

Our first visit was to the Association for Assistance to the Disabled (APPA), which has long been helping children and adults with disabilities throughout Slovakia. Their charity application APPkA transforms everyday movement into meaningful acts of support. Users collect calories that are subsequently converted into financial contributions for people facing difficult life situations. Thanks to the support of MSM GROUP, they now have an opportunity to improve both their health condition and quality of life.

“This partnership not only strengthens support within the application, but also leads to the creation of a new project called MISSION FOR HEALTH 2026, aimed at directly supporting children and adults with disabilities,” says Miriam Juhanesovičová, Chairwoman of the APPA Non-Profit Organization. The MISSION FOR HEALTH 2026 project runs from May to November 2026, while support for stories within the APPkA application continues simultaneously. Those interested in participating in the project can apply through the registration form on the website appa.sk. Together, both forms of assistance create a comprehensive support system that helps cover essential healthcare costs.

ADELI: Returning to Mobility and Independence

The next steps led to the renowned rehabilitation facility ADELI Foundation in Piešťany, one of Europe’s leading neurorehabilitation centers. The center specializes in intensive rehabilitation for children and adults after neurological illnesses, brain injuries, or strokes. For many years, it has helped patients regain mobility, independence, and a higher quality of life.

ADELI clearly belongs among the projects and organizations whose work has a direct and measurable impact on people’s lives, fully aligned with the values of the MSM ĽUĎOM civic association. Both symbolic cheques were handed over by Lenka Smreková, Executive Director of MSM GROUP: “For me personally, meetings like these are incredibly meaningful. In the pace of everyday work, these are the moments that remind me that behind corporate growth, there can be something far more important — real help, hope, and genuine human value. I am proud that at MSM GROUP, we are able to transform our success into support where it truly matters.”

Helping others is not a one-time gesture, but a systematic and long-term part of MSM GROUP’s corporate philosophy. We realize that every euro can mean relief or a new beginning. That is why the scale of our support grows every year — alongside the company’s growth, its international presence, and its success on global markets. More than €85,000 donated in a single day is yet another confirmation that a truly strong company grows not only economically, but also humanly.

Our civic association MSM ĽUĎOM adds another significant achievement to its list – once again with the potential to save lives. We have purchased a state-of-the-art mammography device worth more than €125,000 for uni-POLIKLINIKA in Dubnica nad Váhom.

Our civic association MSM ĽUĎOM has added another significant achievement to its list – once again with the potential to save lives. We have purchased a state-of-the-art mammography device worth more than €125.000 for uni-POLIKLINIKA in Dubnica nad Váhom.

At a time when preventive breast ultrasound screenings were discontinued as of July 2025, uni-POLIKLINIKA Dubnica nad Váhom, a.s. chose to take the opposite approach. Instead of limiting access to prevention, it decided to invest in modern technology capable of detecting disease at a stage when it is still treatable. As the director of uni-POLIKLINIKA, Jana Štefancová, explains:

“Reduced access to prevention in a country where breast cancer is among the most common diagnoses in women can have devastating consequences. However, acquiring such equipment represents a huge financial burden for us – one that we neither want nor can pass on to our patients.”

This is where MSM GROUP stepped in. As a stable company firmly rooted in the Považie region and employing hundreds of women at the ZVS holding plant, we recognize our responsibility for their health as well. The decision was clear to fully cover the cost of the device, amounting to €125,091. At the handover of the symbolic cheque, MSM GROUP Executive Director Lenka Smreková emphasized: “There are moments when numbers take a back seat and values decide. Early diagnosis is not just a medical term – it is a chance for life, for family, and for the future. If we can be part of the solution, there is nothing to hesitate about.”

The new device ranks among the technological leaders in breast diagnostics. It offers 2D imaging with the option of a 3D upgrade, enabling the detection of even very small changes in early stages. At the same time, it provides greater comfort for patients. The “painless mammography” technology significantly reduces discomfort during the examination, which may encourage more women to undergo regular preventive screenings.

The delivery also includes a specialized monitor connected to a PACS system, ensuring efficient processing and sharing of imaging data. The equipment is also prepared for future upgrades with advanced features.

Priority Care for Women from MSM GROUP

This collaboration does not end with the device itself – it is not about a logo at reception, in the waiting room, or directly in the clinic. As MSM GROUP HR Director Petr Koten says:

“Cancer is an experience that affects the entire family. I have experienced it very personally – most personally possible – with my mother. That makes me even more aware of how important early detection is. When we saw that we could help right here – literally just a few steps from our ZVS holding plant – the decision was quick. As an HR director, I am also pleased that this support directly translates into care for our female colleagues and the wives of our colleagues.”

Female employees, as well as the wives of MSM GROUP employees, are guaranteed priority appointments for mammography examinations without unnecessary waiting. Internal communication is currently underway to provide them with all the necessary booking information.

“I am still coming to terms with the fact that we found a partner who covered the full cost of the device. For us, it is not just technology, but a real opportunity to detect disease early and give patients more time and hope,” added the director of uni-POLIKLINIKA in appreciation.

IDEB is more than just an exhibition to us. Although we operate in a global environment and our products and technologies are used by militaries around the world, we still know where the foundation of our industrial know-how lies: in Slovakia.

It is here that the key production facilities of ZVS holding and VOP Nováky are located, focused on the development, production, and assembly of large-caliber ammunition. We consider participation in one of the most significant defence and security events in the region both an honor and a duty.

IDEB is a platform showcasing Slovakia’s technological capabilities in the defence sector. From May 12 to 14 in Bratislava, we will present our products in a way never seen here before. Visitors will see not only finished products but also their individual parts and components – that is, the very “insides” of the ammunition, individual ingredients, propellants, gunpowder, TNT, and nitrocellulose. This is a unique opportunity to understand the complexity of the development and production behind every single piece.

Under the banner of the CSG Group, which offers a broad portfolio of solutions for armed forces – from ammunition to heavy equipment and armored vehicles – we will be part of an exhibition showcasing the breadth and depth of our capabilities. The two-story booth, spanning 431 m², will once again be among the largest in the entire exhibition.

The MSM GROUP exhibition will feature 105 and 155 mm artillery ammunition, 105, 120, and 125 mm tank ammunition, medium-caliber 30×173, 30×165, and 20×102 mm ammunition, 30×113, training ammunition, 122 mm Grad, and the aforementioned pyrotechnic components. Stop by stand D101. We look forward to expert opinions and discussions on defence topics both in the global and Slovak contexts.

At our plants in Slovakia and Serbia, we combined the pleasant with the meaningful by dedicating a full day to what matters most – the health of our employees. Once again, one of the most impactful moments was blood donation, which gives the event a deeper purpose and significance.

Health Day offered a broad range of practical screenings and expert consultations aimed at raising awareness of prevention and promoting a healthy lifestyle. Employees had the opportunity to undergo body composition analysis using the InBody device, providing insights into muscle mass, body fat, and basal metabolic rate. Nutritional counselling was also available, along with measurements of key health indicators such as cholesterol, blood glucose, uric acid, and blood pressure.

Considerable interest was drawn by specialist activities focused on the prevention of breast and colorectal cancer, as well as heart diagnostics using the WIWE device, capable of identifying potential risks associated with heart rhythm irregularities. Employees could also assess the condition of their vascular system through vascular patency testing.

Blood donation formed an integral part of the event and remains one of its most meaningful highlights. A total of 29 colleagues, including 10 first-time donors, contributed to helping save lives. Among the donors were ZVS CEO Jakub Krchňavý and HR Director Alica Egylová. The welcoming atmosphere was complemented by coffee prepared by professional baristas, as well as complimentary fresh fruit, symbolically supporting the message of a healthier lifestyle.

A similarly themed Health Day was also held at our 14. Oktobar plant in Serbia, where employees could take advantage of preventive eye examinations and blood glucose testing. The focus was on prevention and the early detection of potential health risks.

April is carried sign by international meetings, new opportunities and strengthening our position on the global market for MSM Group. Our teams will be presenting themselves at two major events outside Europe – in Brazil and Malaysia.

We will be presenting defence industry products that are created in our European factories on two different continents. With this step, we also confirm that our work is important in an international context.

Participation in foreign exhibitions is not just about presenting our portfolio. It is also proof that we can respond to the specific needs of individual regions and be a reliable partner in non-European markets. It is precisely the ability to adapt and understand local requirements that makes us one of the respected players in the defence industry. At the same time, we repeatedly confirm that we can withstand the competition of the world’s most important companies that operate in an environment with high technological demands.
